  • 2 shadows in exterior scene -vray_beta_148191_rhino5_x64

    Hi,

I'm rendering an exterior scene with a dome light (with HDRI) & manually added from Vray toolbar "sun light system". What's the reason I'm getting 2 shadows, obviously second light source exists- I suspect second sun somewhere, or maybe that's somewhat like a cast shadow from Rhino???

Any idea on how to eliminate this unwanted shadow?
    Thanks

ps> I'm sorry for posting twice the issue, but I suspect very few members have access to V-Ray for Rhino public beta place

Did you made that scene with the current VfR 1.05.29? Are you using the sun and Dome light. If you are using the sun in combination with the dome light you may have two different shadow. One coming from the HDRI in the dome light (specially if you are using an HDRI with sun) and the other one is the sun shadow. Also if you place a physical sun light in the scene, be sure to select the correct name in the TexSky in the environment, it is a weird big number. We have another sun in the TexSky that is the Rhino document sun. If you put a sun in the scene using our toolbar, don't select the Rhino document sun in the environment. They are two different sun. The Rhino document sun doesn't have a physical representation in the viewport. You can control the rhino document sun by typing "sun" in the command line.
Otherwise we have a bug report about unknown light source in scene that were made using the current build 1.05.29.

I would like to see a screen shot or even better have the scene to give you a precise respond.

      Hi Fernando,

      thanks for relply.
      I'm using "1.48.191 rhino5 64bit".

I'm using the correct sun and I point it correctly into environment slots. True, there could be an influence from the HDRI, I'll carefully check this too.
Do you also recommend to relocate lower the dome light until its omni appears under the infinity plane?

The structures I render have walls of wood & translucent membrane on top which I represent as 2 side material. I recognized that the extra shadow might appear due to the differences between the wood and membrane material.
I'll check that too and report. For now I stopped on night render (no shadows worries) which you can see here http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...-1-48-191-buid

      thanks again

        Hi Kostenurka
        Nice model!

Do you also recommend to relocate lower the dome light until its omni appears under the infinity plane?
The position or the scale of the dome light doesn't matter if you rotate the light along the z axis. It should mater if you rotate the dome light along the x axis, V-Ray will use other part of the HDRI and should notice slightly change on the shadow.

          Hi Fernando,

Again I'm experience hard times with my exterior scene.
Like always.. I have vray sun (intensity 0.3 and size linked to the environment slot, and dome light with hdri which is a sky with some clouds. It does not matter what kind of exterior hdr image I load in the dome- I got a permanent shadow which is not affected by sun direction changes!
If I change sun's intensity- shadow intensity changes too, but there is nothing I can do to change the projection of a shadow. I must photoshoping like a monkey after this render again..

Its been many years already I'm suffering with my exteriors for not being 3dsmax user, but rhino enthusiast.

I have uploaded a basic scene with hdri image here: https://smc2.box.com/shared/static/s...oqr8q4uzjs.rar, in case you want to check it. Thanks ..

Also.. Is there any chance VRAY package includes at least ONE single exterior hdri, so we don't doubt anymore if the one we use is correct or not? I'm a photographer taking professional 360 panorama images also making hdr images, just let me know which one is ideal for vray and I'll bring some..

          Best regards

Ok, i got it... to me it seems a bug

once I move the sun using its control points- shadow never gets updated accordingly. Simple rotation command has to be used to rotate the sun and everything goes fine!
