  • V-Ray 1.5 - getting RT to work

When I render using vray 1.5, I get a normal rendering experience for the most part. If I enable RT, my progress window sits at 0% Preparing global light manager. The CPU fan seems to be whirring away, but no progress even after minutes rendering a simple box with no materials. What could be wrong?

BTW, if this isn't the right place to post this please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Did you enable DR too? This is need for RT. If DR works (you can start a spawner at your master machine) than you can enable RT and start again.

      Thanks Micha,

That worked! I didn't see that step in the demo video.
Do you know if there is a manual or help file for 1.5? I'd like to know how to set up vray proxy objects.

      Thanks again,
      Andrew

Ok, here come the newbie questions...

This image shows a scene rendered without RT. It took less than 5min to render the entire frame. The small greyish area in the middle is a window being rendered with RT. I have let the scene sit for more than 5min, but the result is not looking the same as the rest of the image.

What am I doing wrong? Or does RT take a lot longer to render out a scene? At the moment I am just using default settings in RT.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

For me it looks like a bug. Simplify your scene so that no maps are needed (easier to test for the team), test it again and send it as bug ticket.

            Hi Micha,

RT seems to work fine without maps, but once I put maps on the image does not match the non-RT version of the image. I'll send the bug ticket through now.

            Thanks,
            Andrew

I just got my v-ray installed and I can't seem to get the RT to work proper either. It starts the render, but it freezes my scene so that I can't rotate or select anything in my scene. Once I close the window I can move my scene around again. What am I doing wrong?

Be sure that the "batch render" option in the Global switches is disable .

                  Thanks,

That was it. It's working well now. Thanks for your help.

I have another question about RT. If I render the scene it looks like it should and then when RT is used the ground plane doesn't keep it's color. I added a black ground plane and in RT it's white. Not sure why. What am I doing wrong? Also they look very different. I'm assuming that RT is just to get the general idea of how it looks before it's rendered.

does the problem persist if you use a regular plane, rather than the V-Ray infinite plane? That is a special type of geometry, so it's possible that there could be a bug that prevents that type of geometry from updating properly in RT.
                      Best regards,
