  • Getting a single texture "decal" to stop repeating

    Hi,
I have been trying to add a logo to the side of a boat much like a decal. I've added a texture of the logo with a clear background (png file) within the material. It's on a second difuse layer above the one creating hull color.

Within the mapping controls of Rhino I've placed a planar map on the hull side surface with the widget locating where the logo is supposed to appear. The image of the logo does render in that position.

The problem is I cannot keep the logo (png file) from repeating. I have turned off the "tile" function in the vray material diffuse layer that caries the texture. Still though one of the instances is properly set, the logo repeats all along the surface. I don't get just the one logo I'm looking for.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    chuck

    Hi,

I made a simple test and "tile" option works fine.
Can you reproduce it with simple box?
What is the V-Ray version that you are using?

      Hi,
I'd be happy to respond except as of now my VRay is not working at all. I loaded up the new release version of Rhino 5.0 and tried to load the latest VRay to match but it would not install properly. I'm still trying to get that worked out. When I do I'll get back to this question.

By description, the logo is small compared to the surface. It's done with a png file so the background of the logo is transparent. The logo is added to the texture of the surface as a defuse layer above the regular color layer. As I mentioned tile is turned off.

The widget in Rhino is used to set the position and it seems to do so. An incident of the logo does, in fact, appear centered in the widget.

Unfortunately that is the only incident of the logo I want, BUT it repeats multiple times around the needed one.

I could likely add a lot of blank space around the image in the png file so only one would be seen, but that doesn't proper. It would seem to add a lot of issues in locating and scaling the logo properly.

      Thanks,
      chuck

        Hi,

Did you manage to load the V-Ray plugin for Rhino 5?
Do you get the same issue with this version?
