  • Extract Shadows from render

I have the newest build 225 of v-ray 1.5 installed. I can't seem to find a way to render an object on a ground plane and be able to save out the shadows only. I choose the vfb channel shadow, but it only shows up black. The alpha is just a standard alpha. I don't see any shadow. How do I get the shadows. I saved the channel out as a png. Should I try some other format?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I found that I can now capture the shadows from light, but not the gi shadows that are also in the scene. I also have to save the shadow channel out as a tga or tiff. Am I on the right track?

If I remember me right, I found no way to get the shadows. The builds above 1.50.22639 (current nightly beta) will support the wrapper material, that allow you to get what you need.

Can anyone use the beta? I'm on build 225 right now and you are on 22639. I don't have the options you have to make all this work. I guess I'll have to wait until the next version comes out. That's why I can't find those options. Thanks for the info.

Thank you for your help. I had sent in for a request and now have installed the nightly builds. Having fun with it. So far so good. I've got the shadows extracted. Now just testing out extracting the reflection on the ground plane too. Thanks a lot.
