Distributed Rendering Setting Questions

So our office has finally got a small render farm set up and now I have the question of what these highlighted options do (Asset Collection + Mode). I assume that they have to do with the way in which bitmaps and other assets get sent from one computer to another, but I can't find any documentation on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
