  • Im getting update envy!

Anyone hear of any updates or improvements coming to V Ray for Rhino5? All these all this constant talk and showboating of VRay for 3DMax has me jealous.

    Yes, an update please!
It's worse for us (in enterprise environment) that can't install the nightly builds!

It's been more than a full year without any updates. When the next VfR version will come out it will already be several generations older than the Max version...
Chaosgroup is working on updating the user interface but the new V-Ray 3 beta is introducing a new one already.

        Hello,

we have dedicated developers for every product and all of them will be matched as features and performance at some point. It is much more easy to implement new features in a product when they are already available and tested in the core of another.
When V-Ray 3.0 for 3ds Max is gaining speed this means that we will have a lot to add to the rest of V-Ray family. V-Ray for Rhino and SketchUp are now important part of this family and we will make sure to make their users happy too.

I understand what you are saying, but there was things that were available in Vray 1.5 for MAX and that are still not available in Vray for Rhino,I suppose they have been tested and used enough to make sure they are working.Just in the material department vrayblend and vrayfastsss are still not available....

But the development progress doesn't show this at the user side. I can't believe that the chaosgroup team doesn't see it.

We are preparing to merge in changes that will be present in the V-Ray for SketchUp 2.0 release. Stability and unification has been a primary focus for this release. We have been trying to have simultaneous development cycles for both V-Ray for Rhino and V-Ray for SketchUp. This is the first time in either product's history, that we have been able to achieve this. The entire time V-Ray for SketchUp 2.0 was being developed, an update for V-Ray for Rhino was also being developed. There are a number of features that are missing from both V-Ray for Rhino and V-Ray for SketchUp, but before we pile on new features, we need to be sure that the product is stable. There will even be some new bells and whistles in this next V-Ray for Rhino release. Micha, I understand your frustration, we are making strides to have shorter development cycles, and to have dedicated developers for each product. We are certain that we will have a solid update for the next V-Ray for Rhino release.

The new bells and whistles I have seen from the betas are great additions and I started to work with the beta daily, because the new features are great helper. VfR is quite powerful now.

I'm very curious to come in a better, faster contact to the development. Some times I'm deeper testing something, found a serious problem, but there is no dialog with the team possible to get the problem solved and finally the problem is forget between all the bug reports. I hope we get a continuous beta testing and fixing soon.

Like Micha,I am also working with the betas and I love it.But like Micha I find that there is no dialog no continuity between us and the developers. Some times you get an answer, some time not,and the bugs stays there for a long time, some bugs I reported in April are still there.
I love that software, but it does suffer from a lack of communication and follow up.And while all the bells and whistles are great,I can't deny that, some very basic necessities are still missing.

Just hoping for the best ,I know you are doing your best but from that side of the fence ....it is crawling.

Thank you all for your feedback.
We will take a point and discuss with our developers what can be done about the questions you rise.
