  • VFR-SP1 Materials List Window (Tabs) Freeze after or during renders

    Hi
    Since installing the Sp1, the materials tab will randomly freeze, requiring me to shut down Rhino and restart Rhino.
    The freezing happens whilst or after rendering with RT or Std. Rendering.
    Once frozen I can normally still save my project in Rhino, close Rhino and restart it.
    Once frozen I can close the materials window(X) and make it re-appear using the toolbar M button, but all buttons on the Materials window are frozen and do not repond.
    I've tried closing the Materials Window in Windows7 Task Manager - Running Tasks, which only closes the window, same as (X), and when I re-open the Materials Window it is still frozen.

    As far as I can tell the problem only happens if I am rendering in normal or RT, and have the Materials Window(tab) open at the same time.
    If the Materials List/Options Window is hidden whilst rendering in either normal or RT model then I do not have this problem.

    For now I just have to remember to always get rid of the Materials Window before rendering, but this sort of defeats the point of RT if I can't make adjustments to materials whilst rendering.?
    Let me know if anyone else having similar freezing issues with the Materials List Window open. Michael VS

    Hi
    When the freeze happen, all the UI turn grayout?

      Hello Fernando.
      Yes. I've noticed that during normal use the UI goes grey for a few seconds every now and then.
      Clicking back and forth between the progress window and the materials window sometimes brings it back to life.
      The freeze normally follows one of these "greyouts" and never goes back to being editable.
      Using an i7-3770 with Q6000, When in RT I use CPU mode.

          Thanks Micha. I tried adjusting the timeout longer, but the Materials window freeze still occurred.
          The materials window doesn't seem to grey out as often anymore though.
          I have noticed that the materials window normally freezes if I have a render running(normal or RT) and I am busy modifying a material at the same time by clicking one of the little blue M buttons.
          Normally clicking the M option would open up a separate window with all the options on it.
          There is normally a 2 second delay between clicking the m and the Materials M Options window opening anyway.
          Could it be the Materials M OPtions sub-window that is actually freezing things up?
          When a freeze occurs the main Materials window is not greyed out, you can click on the options and try to change things but nothing happens.
          So perhaps the Freeze is actually because Vray is in limbo between the Materials Window and opening the SUB-Materials M window?
          Speaking of this I see in some of Fernando's videos that this Materials M Texture Options Windows popup almost immediately, whilst mine have always had abit of a delay. Is there a tweak for this?

            Hi
            I talk with the support guys and they mentioned that the issue could be related to an update issue that involve the preview scene. Here are some steps that they recommend to do:
            "As a first step please make sure Rhino is closed and try locating and opening the file: C:\ProgramData\ASGVIS\V-Ray For Rhino.ini

            Use notepad to open it. At about the 5th line you should see the text:
            previewScene=C:\\ProgramData\\ASGVIS\\Common\\x64\ \vc10\\Python26\\lib\\site-packages/MaterialPreviewScene.xml

            Delete that line entirely so that the second group of text looks like this:
            [Material%20Editor%20Preview]
            liveUpdate=0
            renderOnlyTopLevel=0

            Save the file and open Rhino then attempt to preview your material. Please let us know if this corrects the issue, we are investigating it as a new bug."

              Hi, and thanks for the info. I tried the changes you list, but I am still getting freezing up of the materials window if I try to do anything on it whilst a render is in progress.
              I see on other thread here that others are having success with nightly build.
              Where do I find or download the nightly build? Michael VS
