  • Compare settings between setups in two files

    Hi,
Is there a way to more easily compare Vray settings from two different files. I'm trying to understand why the same model in two different files looks very different. I look through the option settings and compare them tab by tab with both files open side by side but don't see anything different... but obviously there is something. It would be good if something pointed me or more clearly showed the difference between two sets of settings.

    Thanks,
    chuck

The easiest way would be to export both files to .vrscene files.
Then open both .vrscenes with text editor with compare capabilities like Notepad++ and you will see the differences right away:

      Thanks,
That is exactly what I'm looking for. I found the visSetExportVRScene command which I presume the command you would use to do that. It does not, however, appear to be creating anything. It opens a windows file panel where I give the file a name and pick ok but when I look in that directory it is not there.

      Am I missing something.

      thanks,

You can export .vrscene from Maya Render.exe via the following command in the CMD:
        C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2015\bin>Render.exe -r vray -exportFileName "C:\path\to\exported.vrscene" -noRender C:\path\to\maya\file.mb

.vrscene could also exported from Maya > Render Setting > Translator Rollout:

Set the path value activate Export to a .vrscene and hit Render Button.

          Hi,
Thanks again for your input, but I am trying to do this in Rhino 5 with Vray. I don't have Maya.

            I am sorry about that.
You could export .vrscene from Rhino by first run the following command:
            visSetExportVRScene

Then select the Output path of the .vrscene file and hit Render Button.
Vray will export the scene and it will start to render - you can cancel the rendering.
