  • Difference between .vrmat and .vismat

I noticed that VRay express presets use the .vrmat format. Is there a difference between the vrmat and vismat formats? Can the Express toolbar use vismat materials as well? Thanks.

There is no different in term of functionality inside Rhino. You can save your material as .vismat or .vrrmat. However the .vrmat it is our universal material format. So you can use .vrmat in Rhino, Sketchup, 3ds Max, Maya, Modo, etc.

        Hi Fernando,
That brings up a question I had; how do you export a .vrmat from 3dsMax?
We have a team working on 3dsMax and they have an extensive library but I was only able to export .mat files when I looked at it.

          Hi
3ds max have a tool to convert .mat into .vrmat. It is located inside the Tool menu. You can covert a library,a material or a all the material in the scene. Keep in mind that if Ray for Rhino don't support a feature in the 3ds max material, that feature will be missing when you load the material in V-Ray for Rhino. For example, we do not support SSS2, So, there is no way to import a .vrmat that is a SSS2 material.
