Improvement to material drop down menu

I'd like to make a request for an improvement to the materials drop down menu. I like to assign materials by layers. When you click on the material in the layers menu and get the 'Layer Materials' menu you then click the 'Browse' button and get the drop down menu. That menu is very small and you have to scroll within that menu if you have a lot of materials saved. In the old old old version of VRfR that menu was resizable. That would be a HUGE help and improvement.

I don't know if that would be possible (you could push McNeel to allow if it is not), but when V-Ray is the current renderer we shouldn't have to click in the check box "assign material by plug-in: V-Ray for Rhino" (it's already defined, why have to select it again?)
And from there, instead of having to click on "Browse", it should be the drop-down right there.
