  • Included render node

    Simple question...
When it's said that "V-Ray Workstation" includes a render node license, it means that two computers can contribute to the render (1 workstation + 1 render node), right?

From a remark in another thread, I understand that a "workstation" license can't use a render node at the same time the workstation is rendering... Is that right?

That changes our setup a lot, we can't use my our render farm anymore.

Chaosgroup should at least change how the products are presented, I read it like one render node was included (instead of 5 before)
I see that the description has been changed now, but it's not as clear as it should be.

      Hello,

The Workstation license includes the AppSDK and Interface licenses required to open the V-Ray and interact with the user interface, create materials, import V-Ray proxies, create V-Ray Fur, Mesh Lights, etc.
The Render node licenses are used for rendering.
A Workstation license comes with one render node license. This render node license is engaged and used by the machine used for modeling and initiating the rendering process. To be able to use additional machine's computing power through distributed rendering, you need one more render node license per additional machine.

To sum it up: If you have 1 AppSDK, 1 Interface, and 1 Render node license you can render and model only on 1 machine.
If you have 1 AppSDK, 1 Interface, and 3 Render node licenses - then you can model on one machine and use an additional 2 to render.

If you have any confusion or would like to learn more details about this, please send an email to my colleagues at sales@chaosgroup.com - they are best qualified to answer such inquiries.

      Kind regards,
