I am new to v-ray 3 and I wanted to know if I can delete a diffuse layer? I started a generic material and wanted to delete a layer like I could in v-ray 2. Is that possible? If so how?

Hi Justin
By Default when you add a new Generic material we use a VRayBRDF layer. In this layer we have all the material properties embedded in it. So, you will not be able to delete just the diffuse part or the material. However you can delete the whole VRayBRDF layer by left clicking on the three dots at the right of the layer name. (See the first image)
Then if you click on the "+" sign, you can add the individual layer like diffuse, reflection and refraction.(See the second image) Of course if you have a material with individual layers you can delete any layer by clicking on the three dots and selecting "delete" . You could also change the position of the layers dragging the layer in the three horizontal lines in the middle of the layer and dragging it to the new location.2 Photos

Also is there a way to load up the scene that the material previews use? just curious. sometimes my scenes are different and if really effects the way the material looks. I like the preview look sometimes.
