  • Unusual question for remote working...

This might be a bit of an unusual topic, so apologies in advance...I'm in need of some help/ideas for licencing...

I spend my time split between Australia and Europe. I work from home as a full-time renderer. I use v-ray... obviously. My current set-up is that I own a single v-ray licence, and use a second computer as a slave only. I'm currently in Europe, but have 3 months in Australia coming up. To continue working I usually take my computers with me and set-up a home-office wherever I'm living. However, this time I plan to leave my two PC's in Europe and buy a new PC in Australia....

This is where things get a bit tricky.... Since I'm lucky enough to have a stable physical office set-up (with amazing cheap internet) in Europe, I plan to leave my two PC's here (turned on/in sleep mode and accessible thru remote desktop). I hope to work in Australia during the day and shot off renders overnight to my two computers in Europe to render while I'm sleeping in Australia.

But... I can't figure out how I might get my licences to co-operate. I planned to take my dongle with me, but seeing as I might not have a computer ready for 2 weeks or so, that's also 2 weeks where I can't use v-ray on my European computers via remote desktop.

    My questions:
    - Is it somehow easy to transfer (borrow) licences in this situation... ie; a dongle plugged into a PC in Australia, and v-ray running in Europe on the same licence? I can see this being problematic...
    - Or is there some other system I should be aware of for this set-up?
    - If I buy a new licence (which I would like to avoid), does ChaosGroup permit me to re-sell my second licence when I no longer need it? Do people ever buy second-hand licences?

Any other ideas/tips would be greatly appreciated!!

    Many thanks.

    Hello,

My colleagues should be able to provide you with options how to setup the licensing in your particular case. However, as this might involve solution based on your personal license information, it would be best to follow up privately by email. Please send a brief description of your request plus link to this thread at support@chaosgroup.com .

    Kind regards,
    Peter
