  • Using maps to control fur

In the VRayFur object properties, we can use maps to control some parameters. But I'm having a hard time getting some results...
-How do we control the map size/scale/orientation? I tried to assign a Rhino planar mapping to the "Fur Object" but I don't see any effect
-In the help docs (https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ur+%7C+VRayFur), it says that we may need to enable the "Alpha Is Luminance" attribute for the textures but I don't see this control

I'd like to start by noting that the VRayFur interface will be improved in the upcoming v3.6 update.

    Regarding your questions:
    1. Each VRayFur texture's mapping is linked to each object it is applied on. You can set an object material mapping to one mapping channel, while a VRayFur texture uses another. The only limitation is that you cannot set a VRayFur texture to use different channels for different objects. Instead, you'll have to plan accordingly and reserve the same channel number for that texture on each object with fur.
In addition to Rhino's mapping tools, you can also use each texture's UV transformation controls. Just make sure you are always using UVWGenChannel (UVWGenEnvironment is not working with VRayFur!).

    2. Please ignore that note in the documentation. We'll have it edited.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

Hi Peter, thanks for your prompt response.
I still can't get to work like I think it should... Can you take a look at it? Here's the Rhino file as well as the bitmap used: Fur texture problem.zip

I should've read this one more carefully. As already mentioned, each object's mapping determines how the VRayFur textures work on it. If by "Fur Object" you mean the square widget - it is used only for applying/removing VRayFur to objects. It is there for display purpose only and is not actual scene geometry.

The fur in your project renders properly if you apply suitable (in this case Cylindrical) mapping to each of the 3 objects.

        Kind regards,
        Peter
