  • Color gradient on glass

I would like to create this glass effect with a transition to color. I created a glass material and added a purple to white gradient png file in a couple of places without any success. I tried in the diffuse and also tried in the fog color. When I added the png file to the fog it turned the object solid black.

easiest is to do this with a mix map, then use simple black and white gradient as texture and then you can play with the colors
You can contact StudioGijs for 3D visualization and 3D modeling related services and on-site training.

Looks cool! So you are loading that mix map into the Fog color channel?

I got the color on the tall drinking glass. However when I attached the material onto the teapot it just shows glass. Wonder why.

have you applied planar map to the teapot as well?

              Hi guys,

Gijs is correct. The gradient not showing up has to do with object UVs.
It seems that the cylinder has appropriate UVs while the teapots don't.

I also want to point out that there is a 3.6 SP release on the way (should be released this month) that will include a procedural Gradient (Ramp) texture.
It'll simplify the workflow described in a big way letting you fine-tweak the gradient colors and positions at any point.
The texture is already available in V-Ray 3.6 for SketchUp. You can check out the overview video here:

Yep that was the issue. I did not know that everything that uses a map is affected by the overall UV settings. I am used to setting those up one at a time. Can't wait for 3.6 for Rhino, was hoping for a Christmas present.
