  • Wish: Update Materials from Rhino automatically

If you set a material in GH using the Material from Project component you can now change the material properties on the fly. However the material does not get updated automatically as it does if you render from Rhino (even if you "Render in Project"), but you always need to let GH recalculate once to update the material.

I wish that was not the case and the material would just update in the viewport just as it does in Rhino.

    Thanks!

This is already supported in the V-Ray 5 for Rhino public beta build. If you haven't already tried it, please check your email for an invitation or simply visit https://www.chaosgroup.com/beta/vray-rhino .

    Kind regards,

Uh, that's exciting. I will check it out. Since it says it shouldn't be used in production and things are not backwards compatible we are a bit hesitant.

Can we try V-Ray 5 and leave the "old" V-Ray as a backup? Or does it completely replace the old V-Ray in Rhino?

Only one verson of V-Ray for Rhino can be installed at a time.
Тhe easiest thing to do is create a copy of the project files (.3dms) you wish to open with V-Ray 5 and leave the originals intact.
