Wish: merge materials

From time to time I get a lot of duplicated materials and I miss a way to select them, to choose "merge materials" from the context menu and to choose a new material.

An other way could be that at the context menu of a multiple selection the command "select at the viewport" is available too. Than I could assign a single material to this selected objects. Could this be added please?
