  • Locking a render view for rendering similar to 3DSMAX

Hi we are an architecture/interiors team working in New Zealand and was wishing that vray for rhino will implement view lock for rendering like 3ds max. PLS refer to images. It is really frustrating that in rhino that the right view needs to be hovered before pressing render.

    Hello, Jason,

This was handled in the v5.10.04 update from May 19th.
Support for Rhino's native render view selection option was introduced. Selecting a Specific View, Named View or a Snapshot is now respected by V-Ray.
The V-Ray camera will stay locked to that view until the option is manually reset back to "Current View".
    https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...Rendering-View

Please note that when the View option is manually specified, it overrides the render output even when performing batch rendering.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

Oh yeah, so nice! Haven't been aware of this very useful feature until now. Thanks!

Peter.Chaushev I tested this feature and run in a problem. I set specific viewport "view A". Later I liked to render "view B" at the same viewport, but if I pressed the render button than the render process started for 1 second and immediately the frame buffer was closed again without an error message. First I didn't know why and after some attempts I remembered me that I set this new feature - a little pitfall.

I know it's not a Chaosgroup feature. My dream is to define a viewport and to render all views from this viewport independent from the recalled named view. Maybe your team could add this feature.

Was not able to reproduce this locally. Could you please share a render log if you happen to reproduce this behavior again?

I'm a bit confused what you refer by "viewport" in this case. Can you please expand on your idea? Are there specific situations where you will find this most useful?

          Kind regards,

            Hi Peter.Chaushev

I didn't upgrade to the latest little update since it fixed issues which I don't use. Do you think it's necessary for this feature?
(Where do I find the render log?)

About the viewport - I detailed wrote at the McNeel side, maybe you have an idea how to get it working like it would be more useful for rendering:

Finally it looks like the Rhino feature isn't the solution.

It is always recommended to keep V-Ray up to date in order to get the latest improvements and bug fixes.
Further details are available at https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRHINO/V-Ray+5 as well as the changelog that comes with the installation.

                I see, thanks for clarifying!
I'm afraid on this subject for the time being V-Ray will align with Rhino's design.
Even if a 'View to Render' option is implemented in the Asset Editor (mimicking the implementation of -Ray for 3ds max) it will still rely on Rhino to pass info of the specific viewport.

                Kind regards,
                Peter
