  • Wish: support of Rhino 8 object clip option

    Hi,

at Rhino 8 can be found a new object property option "clip". Here the user can disable clipping for selected objects. It's easy to setup and really useful. It would be great if V-Ray could direct support it additional to the known V-Ray only method.

    Best -

    Hello, Micha,

Thank you for request! It makes total sense to add support of the Rhino 8 "Clip" Object property. The feature request is logged and we will let you know if there is any progress in this regard.

    Kind regards,
    Iva

Any updates on clip options for rhino 8? It was working well in rhino 7 but the lack of these options now that Rhino 8 is not a beta and starting to be widely used is problematic

      Hope to see updates soon

      Thank you

        Hi,
Rhino native clipping plane exclusion list support is currently being implemented. I hope we can shop it with the next release.
Mind that rendering the hatch pattern for the cut surface will not be supported as Rhino does not offer an API to sample it into texture
Meanwhile you can use the V-Ray clipping plane object exclusion facilities, which has always been supported on all Rhino versions to achieve exactly the same result

nikolay.bakalov Strange, the Rhino UI doesn't show the feature anymore, but also the V-Ray exclude/include isn't working.

Lots of things changed in the final version of Rhino 8, compared to the WIPs and the BETA. I was surprised as well. The section style they ended with is not currently supported, as their API does not have hatch pattern sampling capabilities. On the other hand they made the exclusion mode almost identical to the V-Ray clipper capabilities, so we had to migrate our clipping plane options to theirs, hence the disabled UI (they also broke the UI completely, but this is another matter).
The UI is disabled, not removed, because of the mesh clippers that still exist only in V-Ray. Once they have it in Rhino, that UI will be gone
