  • Bring back Distributed Rendering

    Hi,

Please bring back the old Distributed Rendering to Vray for Rhino!
Swarm is a good idea on paper but in practice it is really unstable and inflexible.
Why remove the option to manually enter ip addresses for nodes?

    All the best,
    Joakim

    Hello, Joakim,
Running distributed rendering (DR) via V-Ray Standalone remains available. V-Ray for Rhino installation sets up a 'V-Ray Standalone' Start menu shortcut (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\V-Ray for Rhinoceros\)
The commands associated with distributed rendering are described here: https://docs.chaos.com/display/VNS/V...tributedRender
For proper results you must always ensure the version of V-Ray is identical on all machines engaged in the render process.

Needless to say, V-Ray Swarm automates a lot of the manual effort required for running DR through a command line. I strongly recommend using it instead.
The Chaos Support team will help out with any issues you have encountered. Please reach out to them for assistance at https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new .

    Kind regards,
    Peter

      Thanks,

I'm aware of DR in Standalone but that would remove the ease of use by just hitting render in Rhino or Grasshopper.
What we used to do in the past was to spin up a few AWS EC2 nodes and use them in DR which greatly reduced render times regardless of the lag while transferring large files.
We are a small studio with a workflow that might be an edge case but my question still stands; why remove a perfectly working solution?

DR and Swarm could easily exist side by side or one could add the possibility of manually adding remote resources to swarm.
Swarms use of multicast might be an issue with remote resources so it may be more complicated to integrate them than just letting them be two different ways of distributing renders.

This remains on top of my wish list and I would happily assist in discussions on how this could work technically if you'd like.

      All the best,
      Joakim

I agree joaho very well, Dr is very easy and stable more more than swarm
