    I believe this is what Vray for max does automatically. I noticed because I couldn't get transparency look right, until I tested it in max

    me and Corey had a discussion about this. He had your point of view, whereas I felt funny overriding people's options. I'd much rather just have people turn it off and on as they please, but if there is a general agreement that this should always be turned off on transparent materials I will do it.

      It's probably best to grey out this option if you have any refraction going on, and assume a single-sided material in this case.

      The reason for V-Ray for 3dsmax to ignore this option for refractive materials is that people will very often forget to turn it off, and then go on and compain how things do not work.

      Further on, double-sided refractive materials do not really make any sense, so it's probably best not to allow them at all.
