  • Help: I need more bump and reflection

    Hallo,

I have modelled a sea surface with a bump, but the bump effect is much to light. Joe/Corey/Vlado - if possible make the multiplier unlimited, please. The same for the reflections. At the moment the multiplier is limited to 1.

Bump value above 1.0 is certainly possible and I'm sure Joe would jump in on that, but reflections stronger than 1.0 don't make any sense, especially in a GI framework - you wouldn't want the light to increase with each reflection bounce... everything would go white.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

You can get stronger reflections and highlights on surfaces by taking the material's IOR up in to the double digits. But this will make the material appear as if it has a sort of "Clear Coat" or "Gel" on top of it.

Thank you. I know the "IOR" method and I don't like it so much. Like you say, the feeling of the surface is changed.

In many cases I have the feeling if I use an IOR of 1.55 than the reflections are not strong enough. It could be nice if the user could decide to ignore the limit of 1.

I think what you need is the ability to make a ramp material and put it in the reflections map area. This would allow you to control the fresnel reflections (if you are using them, which you should for water) to be more stronger as you can manually adjust the ramps color levels to your requirements.

I don't think the ramp map is available in Rhino yet, not sure if it will be available either - we desperately need procedural maps in Rhino.
