Relative texture scale wish

I'm not an experienced user, so maybe I'm just making a mistake, but I wish that when I apply textures to different faces of an object I wish I could have a single defined scale. I spend way too much time trying to get the scale of materials (eg brused metal) uniform for the whole object.
