  • Gamma corrected workflow per global gamma control

    Hi,

the current Rhino 4 beta bring a new global gamma correction feature. A little wish: could I get an independent gamma correction for input and output? The problem is, the current beta correction must be set at 2.2, because all input colors/textures base on gamma 2.2. This cause a gamma 2.2 output too. But what can I do, if I need a gamma 1.8 output?

    I see two ways:
    (1) No extra user control for input color/textures gamma: if correct colors/textures is checked, than gamma 2.2 correction is used. The user can set at the global options an output gamma independent form the internal input correction (I suppose so, that Maxwell go this way).

    (2) The user can set the gamma correction for input color/textures gamma and the gamma value for output independent from each other. Best, the old gamma output control at the color mapping come back. This way provide a maximum control, but I suppose, the way (1) could be good enough.

Independent from the two ways, the texture UI override option should allow to ignore the global correction, so, if necessary, the user can adjust the contrast of a texture at single materials. This feature I used often and dosn't work at the current beta anymore. The global input correction dosn't allow to use a local correction anymore, only for the material preview.

    Best regards,
    Micha

The input gamma is not based on 2.2 - its based on the number you provide as the gamma. The gamma is used as input and output. But I can see how it would be useful to have independent control for both - so I'll add it to my list

This side is a must for every CG artist.

Look at "calibration" -> "monitor calibration"

... and than you will buy a calibration tool.
