  • Splitface Displacement Map REQ

    i have made this map
in the preview it looks good only at .01 but results in no displacement in the render
when i move it to 1-3 i see a slight displacement in the render but in the preview it looks crazy blown out

does anybody have any suggestion or a better one? for splitface CMU

    Re: Splitface Displacement Map REQ

There are several material properties that I wouldn't rely on the preview ball for, and displacement is one of them. The issue is that displacement is very dependent on the scale of the object on which its applied and the scale of the scene as whole. So what may look good in the material preview may not be so good when you render and vice versa...I'd recommend doing some render tests (renderwindow is a good idea) instead.

Your map looks fine, all though I would probably brighten up the faces a little bit. But don't go too bright, or the colors will get clamped and the block would look weird.
