  • Vray Fur rendering 'flat'

Let me preface this by saying I am a total newbie when it comes to rendering and especially using VRay.
I am trying to render grass and the videos I've watched make it seem incredibly easy, even the one the chaos group put out themselves.

When I was trying out VRay Fur initially it seemed nothing was rendering and I thought it might be invisible.
But when I increased some values and zoomed in I realised something was happening, it just doesn't look like the pictures.

I've attached an image, I hope some more knowledgeable people are able to help me!

With the settings, I've tried the default settings and also the ones the tutorials use.
I've tried with a specified material and without... it all does not matter and all comes out like the image below.

Boy, do I feel stupid now.
Making sure the surface is white and not the backface solved the issue. Thank you so much!
