  • Material preview shows nothing

    Sketchup 2019, Vray Next Update 2.1 (Apr 29, 2020 release), nVidia Studio Driver 442.19

    Actual rendering works fine, but the material preview stopped working!

    I will try to uninstall-reinstall and hope for the best. What could have caused this?

    Hi,

    The swatch preview is actually rendering in the background.
    By the looks of your screenshot is seems that the render process has crashed.
    You don't have to reinstall.
    Just go to "Extentions/V-Ray/Help/License/Release License".
    Then open the Asset Editor again - the swatch renderer will be restarted and should work fine now.

    This crash itself is most probably caused by a specific material in the scene.
    You can try selecting the materials in a row, one by one to see which one causes the issue.
    I'd appreciate it if you can then save it out as a .vrmat and send it over.

      Thank you. I tried Extentions>V-Ray>Help>License>Release License

      Unfortunately it did not work.

      I also tried uninstalling Vray, then reinstalling it. Still doesn't work.

        I reformatted my whole computer, clean installed Sketchup and Vray. Obviously it works now lol. I had a deadline last weekend so I needed it to work.

        However, I'm still interested on what went wrong, just in case it happens again. I do not want to reformat Windows again

          Wow, you did some work to fix this. I'm very sorry you had to go through that.
          If it happens again, please let me know. We'll setup a remote session and figure out what's going on.

            Hi there,

            I've the same issue and cannot solve it in anyway.
            I've V-Ray for SketchUp 4.20.03 with Sketchup Pro 2020 Version 20.2.171 running on MacOs 10.13.6.

            Suddenly I've no swatch preview in the asset editor for materials, lights etc. also on a blank file.

            Already un-installed and re-installed both vray and sketchup but didn't help!

            Any suggestion?? Thanks in advance,

                Hi everyone,
                same issue here, yesterday working perfectly and today only black.
                Working with sketchup 2021 and vray 5.10.02 on win.
                Tryed konstantin_chaos solution but didn't work..

                Any ideas??

                  Hello, andre_sousa.

                  Could you try also the steps, described here?

                  Are you using Online licensing? If you are not sure, you could open http://localhost:30304/#/bundle/sketchup and check.
                  Also, by keeping this webpage opened run SketchUp and open the Asset Editor. Then look again at the page and send us a screenshot from it to see the count.

                  At a third thing - run SketchUp just once as Administrator and share with us is the preview still missing.

                    Hello tsvetomira.girginova,

                    thanks for the fast response. I've done the steps that you sent from the other post but still the same issue.
                    Took a screenshot from the license server like you asked.
                    For now it's not possible to run as admin because is an enterprise laptop and I have no permission, I'll try tomorrow with IT and send feedback.

                      Please, make sure, that you have selected a material and opened the material editing section (the right wing of the Asset Editor).
                      See again http://localhost:30304/#/bundle/sketchup - is then a render node appearing in orange in the In use column?

                            Hello tsvetomira.girginova,

                            I've just done update to the gpu drivers and start vray without vpn, now everythings ok aparently.
                            Render is at 1.
