  • Texture problem with CUDA or RTX

    Hello everybody.

I just have a problem that made me crazy, until I found that... probably... it's a bug.
I am modeling some stuffs to put on walls for interior renderings, and I made a "Buddah Frame" (very simple thing : just an extrusion with a texture on it... Can't be more easy !)

And the problem is there :
When I make a rendering with the CPU, the result is this :

    Nice !!! No ???

And when you change the rendering to CUDA or RTX, here is the result :

    So...
    3 solutions :
    1. I am crazy.
    2. I missed something.
    3. This is just a bug !

    Any idea ?

    Thank you in advance !
    DHO.

    Hi dho

This is odd - would it be possible to share the project so we can have a look? Are you receiving any warnings or error messages when you switch to CUDA/RTX? If so, please do let us know.
You can either attach your project over here or forward it through our online Support Contact Form for further investigation.

Please also share your hardware setup - OS/CPU/GPU/drivers. You can also try to update your GPU drivers to the latest recommended ones and let us know if this helps resolve the issue.

      Hello...
Well... So funny and so strange !
I spent two hours yesterday trying to solve this, with no success.
I had spent all the day on SKP and Vray.

Today, I made something else and started SKP just now, when I saw you had answered my post.
And guess what : no more problem !
So I suppose that when you spend a complete day on SKP, running VRAY, if you see something very strange happening (and before thinking you are just crazy ), the first thing to try is .... to restart the computer !

I suppose this is what solved the problem ! What do you think ?

And for your information, I am running SKP on a HP Laptop, Windows 10 PRO, 64 Gb RAM, Intel Xeon CPU E3-1535M 3.10 GHz, GPU Nvidia Quadro P5000.
So I should not have any problem...

Anyway, thank you for your answer.

          Hi dho,

There was an RTX specific issue causing very simple meshes (like planes) to not render at all.
It was not reproducible when using CUDA.
So maybe you switched from RTX to CUDA and that solved the problem.
It is also possible that you modified the geometry slightly.

Also note that this specific issue is fixed in V-Ray 5.
