  • LightMix + Several Dome Lights Isn't working as expected

    Hi,
I've tried to place a few dome lights each with a unique HDRI. After a test render +LightMix element when trying to tweak those dome lights - just doesn't work.
Only the first what V-Ray considers as "upper" is taking effect but the others are just pitched black. No environment is being rendered on the final result.
Any thought on how to render night and day on the same shot?

Aha! I wondered why this was causing me issues in what I just finished doing - though in a slightly different way. Didn't have the time to troubleshoot.

Actually testing this as I type and it is flaky for sure. It will work but not properly at all.
What I did was, if I want to tweak light A in the mixer and it's not showing, then I switched off/on again the light B, then vice versa for the other light when I want to tweak it.
So not completely broken but quite painful to use.

Did you use several light domes?

Yeah, tried with 2 - I presume it multiplies...here's a scene - just replace with whatever maps.... https://www.dropbox.com/s/ap1m1adeuv...domes.max?dl=0

          Thank you for this report!
Our dev team will look into whether this scenario can be supported.

          Kind regards,

            Hi Israel3d,

Two dome lights are currently not supported by V-Ray.
The good news is that we'll soon release an update where the same setup should work as expected.

Has this been fixed yet? I upgraded to Vray 5 from 3.7. I use two dome lights one for lighting and one for reflections and none of my reflection lights work. It almost as if you have to use one light for everything.

I am wondering about this too. I was trying to apply the following workflow without success:
                1. Setup the scene with two domelights, one for evening and one for daylight. Leaving both on.
                2. Setup the scene with artificial lights for the night shot. Leaving on.
                3. Submit to our farm and save to .vrimg
                4. Open in local vfb and using lightmix for the right day/night setting, and then save out the day scene and night scenes separately
                5. Finalize in photoshop opening with the openEXR-plugin

Eg. it would be extremely useful for rendering both night and day in one take.
                Any news?

                  Hi guys,

The multiple dome lights feature is already in.

Use one of the latest V-Ray versions (update 2 would be best) and the following workflow should work exactly as described:
