  • White rectangular spots on a render in section view

    Hi everyone!

Got a problem with a render I'm working on - when in section view there are some white rectangular spots on it. Judging by the shape they've got sth. to do with the windows? I tried changing sunlight ( the hour to see if the shape changes) - no difference, they're always in the same place.
Anyone got a clue for me?

    I'm using SketchUp Pro 2021 and V-ray 5.

    Thank you

    Hi piotr_przybyo,

SketchUp sections are handled in a specific way by V-Ray.
The cut parts of the geometry are still there, just made invisible for the camera.
The cut fills are also handled by V-Ray.
However specific mesh topologies could cause artifacts like the ones you're seeing.
Chances are that there is a non-solid (not closed) mesh somewhere in the window frame that V-Ray fails to create a cut fill for.
Another possibility is that your section plane is perfectly overlapping a mesh face.

The first thing I'd try in order to fix this is moving the section towards the interior just a little bit.
Another option would be to disable the Use Object Material option for the Clipper in the Asset Editor (keeping the material slot empty as well).
This will most probably fix the issue but the cut fills will disappear.

    Hope that helps,
    Konstantin

      Hi Konstantin,

Thank you very much, the second option fixed my problem.
