Well, that's a relatively uninformative error message.
Could you try launching SketchUp from the terminal with the following command:
    Code:
    "C:\Program files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2021\SketchUp.exe" > %USERPROFILE%\sketchup_stdout.txt 2>&1
This should generate a text file called sketchup_stdout.txt in your home folder. Hopefuly that file will prove a little more useful. Please share it with us. Thanks.

      Hey Noel.

Thanks for reaching out. I'm having problems with the command. Do I launch it from WINDOWS+R? or cmd.exe?

        Hi,

I have the same issue starting up my Sketchup today. I noticed that my Windows Security software has put one of the vray installation files in quarantine. Says it contains the Win32/Wacatac.B!ml trojan. Don't know if its a false positive but it seems to be causing the issue.
Attached is the output from starting Sketchup with the text output option as well as a screen dump from my security software.

Thank you both for reporting this problem!
It appears the latest Windows Defender updates (Scene intelligence version: 1.329.2400.0 from Jan 18th) misidentifies one of the files essential for V-Ray to run on SketchUp 2021.
I would like to assure this issue is currently under investigation with the highest priority!

In the meantime, be advised V-Ray remains unaffected when running with SketchUp 2020 or earlier.

Another workaround is to manually pull out of quarantine the file vray4sketchup2021.so .

Will post an update as soon as I have more info to share!

            Kind regards,
            Peter

Update. Restoring the file from quarantine worked

I dont think it would be wise to pull out the file from quarantine even if it is safe, what if in the future the file has a genuine threat and because we have pulled it out of quarantine our machines could be unprotected. I would rather have a solution where the file is not seen as a threat and the problem solved rather than end users finding a 'work around' Hopefully Chaos will keep us posted but in the meantime I cannot use my Vray License and I have work to finish.

                    Hello, craig_williams ,
It is perfectly fine to not follow through with the suggestion I posted earlier. This is a personal choice and not something we would recommend under different circumstances.

With all this in mind, can you, elias_almn , ulon79 , levente_redecky and everyone else affected by this issue, please update their Windows Security intelligence version to the latest available one (1.329.2420.0 or later)? The issue occurred only with version 1.329.2400.0.
You can manually update the security version by opening the Windows Settings panel, navigating to Windows Security > Virus & threat protection and then clicking "Check for updates" under Virus & threat protection updates.

If you already have the file vray4sketchup2021.so quarantined, please delete it after updating, and then reinstall V-Ray for SketchUp v5.00.03 (https://download.chaosgroup.com/?lic...248&product=47)

Please let me know if this helps! Based on our tests the updated definitions no longer misidentify this V-Ray file as a threat.

                    Kind regards,
                    Peter

I used the work around too, it seems to be working fine now.

                        Regards
