  • Vray failed to run on Apple M1 Silicon

Hi guys, I bought new Apple MacBook Air with M1 chip, tested in December Sketchup and Vray for Sketchup. Everything was fine and the CPU render speed great. I uninstalled Vray /wanted to use it on my Win workstation/ Today I install the new Vray 5 hot fix 3 and I cannot load the asset editor, render widow works, render works but Assets editor doesn't and I get this message Click image for larger version

    Hello, Toman,

We aim to have this issue solved in the next update.
As noted in the following thread from December, our developers are still experimenting with the new M1 models.
    https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...78#post1094278

If you wish to attempt a temporary workaround, please follow the instructions described by our lead dev at https://forums.sketchup.com/t/vray-5...e-1-1/147394/4

    Kind regards,
    Peter

      Hello Peter, thanks a lot.
I came across the workaround, but I cannot find the telemetry.json file by myself. Also when I type telemetry.json to Spotlight nothing appears...

Also I get the response from your Support team with this exact
type in Terminal in the Spotlight search and hit enter.

In the new Terminal window paste the following command:

      find '.ChaosGroup/V-Ray for SketchUp/telemetry.json' -exec sed -i '' s/1/0/g/ {} +

Hit enter. Then re-open SketchUp and try using V-Ray.

From Borislav. BUT IT DOESNT WORK...my terminal wrote me this:

sed: 1: "s/1/0/g/": bad flag in substitute command: '/'

please can you help me? I need to work on M1 chip...ASAP....thanks for all

Please try the command without the last slash symbol:
        Code:
        find '.ChaosGroup/V-Ray for SketchUp/telemetry.json' -exec sed -i '' s/1/0/g {} +
Alternatively, you can find the .ChaosGroup folder by accessing your User folder first and then pressing Cmd + Shift + . (dot) to display hidden folders.

Let me know if this works!

Dear Peter, thanks again. Its working. Honestly it is not that smooth as my Win workstation, but working. And the render speed is great for me (Im not archvis master...just doing the quality which is enough for my clients). This is just quick render...resolution 1680x945, medium settings+denoiser, Click image for larger version Name:	pokus2.jpg Views:	0 Size:	550.6 KB ID:	1101341 render time about 5minutes...super

Hi Peter! Perhaps you could help me with the issue that V-Ray is not working at all. My Sketchup is 2023 on M1 Sonoma 14.2.1, V-Ray 6, and just can`t make V-Ray work. Simply crashes Sketchup every time I go and render anything. Please help! Tks

                    Hello, angeluci_jorgensen,
There are currently no outstanding known issues involving your described setup.
That workaround provided in 2021 is obsolete and is likely not related to what is happening with your V-Ray app.

Regardless, thank you for reporting this!
Please try running SketchUp without any other 3rd-party extensions (except for V-Ray) to see whether the crash is potentially caused by a plugin conflict. Alternatively, please confirm whether the issue is observed only with specific SketchUp models.
Either way, please reach out directly to our support team at https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new with the following info:
                    • precise number of your V-Ray version (or the name of your V-Ray installer file)
                    • confirmation whether the crash occurs only in specific scenes or only when certain 3rd-party SketchUp extensions are loaded together with V-Ray.
                    • the VRayforSketchUp.log file located at ~/.ChaosGroup/V-Ray for SketchUp/
                    • the latest vray-neui log file located at ~/.ChaosGroup/V-Ray for SketchUp/vrayneui/
                    • any crash dump and log files from /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports related to your most recent SketchUp crash.
Be sure to bundle together the requested files in a .zip archive and upload them in the Support form. If you require any assistance gathering this info, my colleagues will assist you.
Our dev team will be on standby to initiate an investigation once we have all details.

                    Kind regards,
                    Peter
