  • Vray 2d renders are always too dark when I import them into Paintshop Pro

I set my renders in Vray and then save as a PNG to import into Paintshop Pro for post process.

I use the same monitor for both.

My renders in Vray look brilliant, but are always much darker when I import them into Paintshop Pro. My Display correction in Vray is set to sRGB, which is what the import option on Paintshop is also set to.

I'd appreciate it if someone can point out any obvious mistakes I am making.

    Hi rusty_badge,

Can you post example screenshots demonstrating the differences in the VFB and Paintshop Pro? The issue might be in the software itself - if you open the image on your system image viewer, is it darker compared with the one in the VFB as well? What if you try other formats, i.e. .EXR, .JPG?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I exported in .JPG and EXR and they were as dark. EXR maybe a bit lighter, but washed out. I've included three screenshots below:

Right, thank you very much for the additional info provided.

So it appears that it is saving the image darker out from the VFB - in that case I might need to check your settings to determine why is that happening.

For example, are you using the Display Correction's Exposure option, or are there any other adjustments in the VFB/Render Settings?

Would it be possible to forward a sample project file (alternatively, share a VFB Layers File (.vfbl) along with V-Ray Render Settings (.vropt) file) so we can see if we can reproduce this. You can reach us through our contact form to share the files, just make sure to mention this thread in the email.

I'll leave a reply here as well in case someone else has a similar issue - this was happening due to an LUT file loaded in the VFB Lookup Table layer - it had to have the 'Save in image' option enabled so that the corrections are baked in the output as well.
