  • Material Override Darkens Image

Hi there. I’m probably doing something wrong:

    1. I model my scene, select material override (default material), set my lighting and test render. Tweak settings until all looks good. Then
    2. Add glass material to my model in places and set that glass material to NOT be able to be overridden.
    3. Select a chipboard material to be the override material. Re-render.

The scene renders distinctly darker than it did before I set the override material to be something other than the default material. Even a rectangle light out in space but visible in frame is darker.

Is this intended behaviour? Should I expect the scene’s lighting to fundamentally change when I set a material in the override swatch? I would expect the lighting of (and around) the chipboard material to be different because the chipboard will be absorbing and reflecting light differently to how the default material did. But for the whole scene to change - including lights way off in the distance, implies that the override material is affecting the overall illumination of the scene.

    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hey andy_smith,

Best would be to attach a project (or forward it through our contact form) so we can have a better look and see if that's expected or not. Much appreciated!
