  • V-ray crashes SketchUp 2021 instantly

Hello! I'm having a compatibility problem with V-ray Next 5 and SketchUp 2021.

For the last couple of weeks everytime I try to open a SketchUp model it loads and the model shows on the screen for a few seconds but after it just crashes with no bugsplat message. I was thinking it was related to the latest update released by SketchUp and tried all sorts of things to solve it (updated all the drivers, checked if everything was ok with my graphic card, uninstalled and reinstalled SketchUp and V-ray Next, updated my Windows 10...) but nothing worked.

So I had the idea to try and uninstall V-ray Next and run SketchUp only and for some reason that worked, all my files are opening fine now. I have reinstalled V-ray Next multiple times (and previous versions too) but the problem with SketchUp always comes back. Anyone knows how to solve this?

    Hey isabela_silveira,

Can you clarify the exact V-Ray version used? You can check from Extensions > V-Ray > Help > About.

Moreover, when was it last working without having those issues? Have you made any hardware/software changes at that point? Does it happen on empty projects?

I think best would be to schedule a remote session so we can investigate on the spot. If that's OK with you, please get in touch via our contact form, so we can set things up; make sure to mention this thread (or my name) in the subject. Much appreciated!

      Thanks for the response, nikoleta.garkova

It started after I updated to the last version (V-ray 5 update 1.5). I have tried to uninstall this update and install the previous ones but none of them worked with SketchUp 2021.
I'll contact you via contact form so we can schedule a remote session.

Thanks for the clarifications. This is indeed odd, we'll have to look at it in detail. Will be expecting your message, thanks!

To add an update after the remote session - disabling and enabling back the V-Ray plugin seems to have fixed things. Our suspicion is that there might've been a conflict in extensions load order between V-Ray and other 3rd-party plugins. If the issue reoccurs, do let us know so we can investigate further. Thanks!
