  • Vray 5 UI Very SLOW!

    Hello,

I have been using Sketchup 2018 and Vray 3.6 for a pretty long time up until a few days ago that I update to Vray 5.

I feel like Vray 5's UI is VERY slow now compared to the older version. Here a quick video with Stacy alone:https://www.dropbox.com/s/fal287g4xy..._8188.MOV?dl=0 (When working with a real 3D model, it is much more slower)

For example it takes sometimes 6-15 seconds for a material to appear. Sometimes even if I change render output (aspect ratio) might take 3-5 sec, and sometimes it freeze. Same if I lunch "render" and some other basic operation...

Is there anything I can do/check in order to speed up the interface?

    here some specs:
    RAM 32 GB
    i7-8700k CPU @ 3.7
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

    Sketchup2018+Vray5.1006

    Thanks,

    Lorenzo

    Hi lorenzo_servi,

Can you check the following forum thread and answer the additional questions so we can better understand what's happening. In the attached example at least, it doesn't seem to take such a long time (6-15) seconds for material previews to appear, even though it is still sluggish. We will have a look and notify you.

      Hi nikoleta.garkova ,

yes, in example the slug is little because there are very few materials.
      1. Does this slowdown occur only with projects that have a multitude of material assets?

Well, yes. The more materials there are, the slower it gets..
      2. Is there a running render process when you experience this slowdown?

        No
      3. Does the Asset Editor perform noticeably better when you stop the asset swatch preview altogether?
        No
      4. Which materials are affected - newly created ones / V-Ray preset library materials / Lawbwerk materials / pre-existing custom materials ?
All kind of materials when I drop it, it takes a lot of time before it appears on the preview
      5. Is there any slowdown when you have no other 3rd-party extensions running in SketchUp beside V-Ray?
same problem. Also on Skethup 2021, without any other extensions installed.

The only changes to the system I had to do, compare to when I was using Vray 3.6., are the updated drivers for Nvidia card. Is there maybe something connected to that?

      Bonus:
Here another short video, showing a strange behavior of Vray after closing Sketchup: https://www.dropbox.com/s/uci9s05w05..._8197.MOV?dl=0
Not sure if it can be connected or not.

When the model is not big, workflow is ok. But when I start to have 20/25+ materials, things are getting very slow. Any help?!

      Thank you

        Hi lorenzo_servi,

We have already identified one issue causing the material preview to respond slower in V5 (compared to Next).
The fix will make it in the next update.

Thank you very much for bringing our attention to this!

          Hi,

glad to hear that there is a real problem and that it will be solved.

I have observed the same slowdown phenomenon as Lorenzo's.

Regarding the problem on the video, it does the same thing on my computer.

                Hello, pierrot2 ,

I am sorry to hear you've had such initial impression of V-Ray 5.
The solutions Konstantin mentioned back in 2021 have been implemented in V-Ray for quite some time.
We are not aware of any other similar outstanding issues that may affect UI performance.

The report coming from both you and luisgamino2 is concerning but based on the limited info I cannot confirm whether you both experience the same thing.
Any details you share will be much of great help in helping us identify the problem!
If you feel comfortable with participating in a remote access meeting, I can offer to assist you directly.

luisgamino2 , the issues you mentioned have all been resolved, if I recall correctly.
Stability improvements are a main focus in the development of V-Ray for SketchUp and the progress there wouldn't have been possible without yours and everyone else's feedback.
I can't stress enough the importance of user opinions and ideas on the design process of our product! So any time there you have something about V-Ray on your mind about V-Ray, please let us know!

                Kind regards,
                Peter

                  Hello.

                  Thanks for the return.
Unfortunnatly, my english is too bad for to participating in a remote access meeting, it will be too complicated for me!

I tested vray5 to a scene created with skp18 and vray next, my project file size is 1.4GB.
Maybe with a new project, vray 5 will be more faster, i hope so.

                    Hello pierrot2

Please do not be concerned about the communication aspect of a remote control meeting. More often than not it is done through the chat feature of TeamViewer and a text translator can be used to make things easier for both parties.
If you are interested in having a TeamViewer meeting with us, please contact us through our Submit a request form, where we can arrange it. You will be able to choose a time and date, which are convenient for you.

                    Kind regards!
