  • Sketchup 2021 crashes after installing vray 5 update 2

Sketchup crashes shortly after beginning to load addons, etc. When I remove vray, it loads and works as expected. I reinstalled the update 1 version and Sketchup began working again.
I tried excluding swarm and cloud from the install, but got the same problem when starting Sketchup.
I'm on Windows 10 (latest version as of 11/4/21) with an nvdia rtx 3080 and 32gb RAM.

      Hey guys,

Have you tried disabling any other 3rd party-plugins and loading V-Ray instead? We would need to find the culprit - if possible, do get in touch via our contact form so we can schedule a remote session and investigate on the spot. Please also mention this thread (or my name) in the form subject. Thanks!

Good morning from the East coast of the USA. I've spent an hour going through ALLLLLLL of my plugins (chunks at a time, not one by one ;-\ ). Here's the culprit in my case: ky_Group_PushPull_2DFaces v0.4 %28gvar%29.rb (I hadn't even remembered it was installed and haven't actively used it in quite some time)

To show what WAS NOT one of the problem scripts, I'm including all the scripts/plugins that I have installed, to shorten the hunt for others having load issues by potentially excluding these from their list. See below.

        Cheers,
        Brett.

          Hello, Brett,
Thank you for the effort you've put in identifying the problematic plugin!
Considering the .rb file is over 10 years old I am skeptical its author will fix its conflict with V-Ray.
I'll pass the info to our dev team. They will see if the plugin conflict can be avoided on our side.

I am sorry you've had such a bumpy first experience with the new Update 2. Hope this first impression changes as times goes and that you find the improvements we've made useful to your work with SketchUp.
Once again, sincere thanks for the time you took to single out the incompatible extension!

          Kind regards,
          Peter

            Thanks Peter,

I don't even remember that plugin being installed... it's a hanger-on from copying .rb files from version to version to avoid reinstalling everything over and over, I suspect.

I'm looking forward to playing with the new capabilities!

            Thanks,
            Brett.

              Hello, Luis,
Is the memory usage increased for the same scenes with v5.20.01 when compared to v.5.10.06?
You can check the memory usage from the "Stats" tab of the VFB's right-side panel or alternatively from the render log.
If there is a discrepancy, please pack one of the scenes with increased memory usage (Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project) and share it with us for further investigation via https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

              Kind regards,
              Peter

                  Hi Peter

In My tests vray 5.2 gpu is taking more vram than update 5.1, and is taking more than 1 GB is not few vram is taking a Lot, let me explain You what i see in this update, My scenes that worked with update 1 didnt work with update 2, same scene, same camara and the same settings, when i click on production render this is what happens... Everything is ok, loading the dome light, then loading proxis, then building and compacting optix, then start loading textures, when vray gpu finished loading textures and says aceleration building for optix 0 something like that says and then start light cache ( this is normal behaviur) with update 1, but when i used update 2 all this happened but with a surprise, when vray gpu finished loading textures or bitmaps and is almost ready to build the light cache then vray 5.2 takes a new bunch of vram.
Update 1 it says building aceleration 0 it takes 9.2 o 9.3 of vram and then start to building light cache but it doesnt take more vram, just build the light cache, when light cache is finished vray gpu starts to render and take a little bit of vram My gpu z says or the task manager says 10.4 or 10.5 and start to render, but with update 2 when is almost finishing loading textures or bitmaps and says building aceleration 0 and is almost to start light cache, then crashes so heavy, because from 9.3 or 9.4 jump something to 10.8 or something like that, Even before to start to render, and even before to start light cache, it takes the same with update 1 and 2 until light cache appears, and when light cache is almost kicking in the render with update 2 jump from 9.2 or 9.3 to 10.8 or something similar before start rendering vray, with update 1 is very diferent before starts light cache says 9.0 or 9.1 then when is almost ready to start light cache goes to 9.4 or 9.5 vram and build light cache, when light cache is finished vray gpu update 1 start to render and goes up again vram something like 10.4 or 10.5 but renders fine, no single problem.
Update 2 for vray gpu takes too much vram, Even too much before kicks in light cache.
I really hope that this is going to be resolved because i really want to try the new features, but i have to work right now and is imposible to render with update 2, thanks again Peter and Muhhamed for taking your time looking for these problems
                  Thanks
                  Best regards
