On the whole am loving the recent update...but am running into problems with Vision rendering. I've found workarounds for some of them, but not others.
Attached are 5 images.
Here are some of the issues:
Vision handles faces with different materials on each side, differently (and wrongly) than the UI or render engine. There is a work-around copy the front material to the back or vice versa (S4U Material is a great helper extension to do this).
Vision does not show the bitmap in a rectangle light. It renders as a white rectangle. The only work around is to create an emissive material on the underlying face and then set the bitmap on the rectangular light to invisible (See PC Monitor below). While this works, the brightness of the emissive material is different in the v-ray renderer vs Vision.
There is some quirk in Vision that I can't figure out. See the interior floor in the images below. Vision rotates the texture by 90 degrees. Actually, I think it's ignoring the texture rotation, whereas the GUI and vray renderer get it right.
Maybe related, but Vision incorrectly positions the texture on the TV. This texture was manually positioned in the UI. It shows correctly in the UI and vray renderer.
The weirdest one of all: The windows in the sunroom have glass. In Vision, something very weird happens. Several elements on the other side of the glass are either not rendered, or rendered wrongly. Trees, pool, outdoor deck. If I delete the glass (which I did in #5 on the doors), the elements render correctly.
Thoughts? Workarounds?
Thanks in advance.

Can you share the model you've used in the screenshots?

This is correct - Vision supports only the material applied to the front faces (or the one applied to the Group/Component).
Also true - This is something that we can address. The brightness of the self illuminated material is very slightly off it seems. We will revisit this and try to bring it even closer.
This is very strange. I'll have to check the model.
Once again it would be best to check model first.
This is another engine limitation. Refractive objects are not rendered when behind other refractive ones. The Pool water uses refraction I presume and hence it disappears. The Deck is most probably using a layered material and the lacquer is causing the issue. The trees are also transparent... For the trees I would recommend you change the Opacity Mode to Clip instead of Stochastic:
We know that there is still a lot of work that we need to do on Vision.
Please don't hesitate to share any other feedback you have - it helps us a lot.
Thanks for the reply.
#1. Can you (a) point this out prominently in the docs...and (b) perhaps offer a utility that shows faces with "default" front face and textured rear faces in red or something...would be helpful. Maybe one exists already.
#2. Thanks.
#3. I fixed it - but I don't know ho it worked. I selected the face and rotated the texture 90 degrees using Eneroth Texture Positioning Plugin. It magically fixed it in Vision, without breaking it in the UI or vray renderer ?@&%@*
#4. I fixed it - not sure how. When you get the model, use S4U Material to toggle front and back faces...and you'll see it jump around.
#5. This is problematic. Is there a non refractive glass workaround? I tried...but can't get it to work.
Despite these quirks -- the direction of v-ray, both core, vision and vantage is phenomenal. Well done to you guys.
FEATURE REQUEST: Can you enable support for space mouse etc..in Vision and Vantage. You can already support the SpaceMouse in the Sketchup UI and the changes will link to Vision, but its difficult to switch focus and work with two large overlapping windows. Would be great to minimize the Sketchup windows and just focus on Vision.
SUGGESTION: there is a huge amount of useful stuff in to use these forums. But, a lot of the threads give only partial clues on how to do something.
It would be fantastic to pick a to:
a) Create both a standard simple interior and exterior scene, with lighting (like a studio set) and then every week, Make these available for everyone.
b) do a short tutorial that showed how to do something (start to finish) inside this sample scene...and link to the result. The subjects covered should be driven by forum input and popularity of threads.
For example:
a tutorial on creating a computer monitor/tv that covers both emissive materials and rectangular lights and delves into which to use for what and why. (I note a thread in the general subtopic on the same).
Finally, I can share the model privately - where should I send it? p.s. it's BIG!
1 We have the Scene Interaction Tool. It is available on the V-Ray Utilities toolbar. After you activate the tool and hover over something in the scene you'll see a stylized helper graphic that shows how the materials are assigned.
3 and 4 must have been caused by backface material assignment. In SU the backfaces have separate UVs (texture placement) which Vision also ignores.
5 This is a problem, yes. You can't work around it right now but there might be something we can do on our side. I'll raise the priority of this.

This has been requested in the past. We'll look into it.

We are doing the best we can (https://www.youtube.com/c/ChaosGroupTV) but you are correct, the more tutorials and short tips videos we have the better for the community.
