  • Installing V-Ray 5 (Update 2.3) for Sketchup Pro 2022 (OSX 12.0.1)

    Hi all,

I'm sure I'm being dim here. I had to replace my creaking MBP2013 with a new MBP2022 (M1 Pro chip, not Intel) running OSX Monterey (12.0.1). Installed Sketchup Pro 2022 (Education) fine along with several SketchUcation plugins I use. It opens, runs, etc.

Downloaded V-Ray 5 (education again - I'm a student), ran the installation file (prompted me to install Rosetta which I did) but when the list of Sketchup versions appears in the V-Ray installer for me to choose my version of Sketchup from, it lists Sketchup 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 only. I've never installed any of those versions on this laptop. Does anyone have any idea why the V-Ray installer doesn't think I have (or have run) Sketchup 2022?

Anyone else running a similar setup (Apple silicon with Sketchup 2022 and V-Ray 5) ?

    Thanks,
    Andy

    I'm having a similar issue.
I have SketchUp 21020 & Sketchup 2022 both installed as I transition from one to the other.
Sketchup 2017-2020 are greyed out (as they should be) but neither 2021 nor 2022 are listed at all.
It's the exact same screenshot as yours.
    Thank Chris

Hmm strange. I wasn’t surprised to see all the Sketchup options on my installer greyed out. I think that happens because I have never run those versions of Sketchup on my machine so VRay cannot be installed.

What I’m surprised about is not seeing any options for 2022 or even 2021 in the installer. Hopefully Europe will come online in another 10 hours or so and will give us some answers.

I certainly hope that running V-Ray 5 on Apple silicon isn’t going to be a problem - I’m sure Chaos was well ahead of that curve.

Hold on. So you had it installed previously and now cannot reinstall it? So many questions…

          1. What hardware CPU are you running? Intel/AMD/Apple M1 etc.
          2. What version of Sketchup were you happily using Vray with? Are you still trying to use Vray with that same version of Sketchup?
          3. What version of Vray were you previously using (if you can recall)? Are you trying to reinstall from that previously-downloaded dmg file or are you trying to reinstall using a recently downloaded version?
          4. And it was all working fine before you ran into those licensing issues?

I have found a couple of threads from last year talking about how people were waiting for Vray to be available for the Apple M1 CPU and were frustrated it was taking so long but surely they got it working by now.

This just gets stranger and stranger! You have the same fundamental set up as me, but I have never been able to install VRay 5 in this combination and yet you, somehow, were.

Presumably you have the same issue as me: Sketchup 2022 just doesn’t appear in the list in the Vray installer dialogue boxes?

I wonder if somehow they have removed the latest Sketchup version from the Vray installer but that seems unlikely.

I’m guessing you had to install Rosetta before you could get the VRay installer to run - probably you already had it installed? I wonder if it’s something to do with that.

Interestingly, this link says that Alexander M from Chaos said that a non-Rosetta (native to M1) version of Vray was due in the first half of last year. Which begs the question as to why I was automatically directed to the version I downloaded which clearly forced me to install Rosetta before it would even open the installer.

Let’s hope the Chaos gurus show up soon.

                Hi andy_smith
You are trying to install an older version of V-Ray.
Please unmount all V-Ray for SketchUp installer files(from the quick access on the left side in Finder) and then download and install the V-Ray version from the link below:
                https://download.chaos.com/?license_...271&product=47
Let me know if that worked.
                southbound35 please try the same.

Seems to work great! I can't fully test it now because I'm using my license on my other computer at the moment but will test fully tomorrow. But, for now, it installed great and opens in Sketchup 2022 fine. I have no idea then why the CG website is pointing some of us to that older installer.

                  Thanks for your help!

The link you provided worked. I already uninstalled the license server as well. Reinstalling everything fixed it.

The link you provided should be under "My Products" in my profile. I don't know why it isn't.

Spoke too soon. The licensing is still giving errors. I emailed you though

                            I'm using Windows 10.
                            1. What hardware CPU are you running? Intel/AMD/Apple M1 etc.
                            Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.20 GHz
                            32 RB RAM
Dual AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
                            2. What version of Sketchup were you happily using Vray with? Are you still trying to use Vray with that same version of Sketchup?
2021 - No I was trying to upgrade to 2022 but it wasn't showing either - I have them both installed currently.
                            3. What version of Vray were you previously using (if you can recall)? Are you trying to reinstall from that previously-downloaded dmg file or are you trying to reinstall using a recently downloaded version?
                            VRay 5
                            4. And it was all working fine before you ran into those licensing issues?
                            Yes
I followed completely uninstalled all associated V-ray programs, then initiated the reinstall, and 2021 & 2022 now show up and is installing.
All is well - I'm installed & licensing is up and running.

                            Thank you for your help.
