  • Render crash > CUDA error 716

    Morning all,

Started a render last night. A sketchup / vray animation. It managed 36 frames, but then crashed and stopped with the following message:

    3/14/2022 11:44:59 PM Error [V-Ray] C:\gitlab\builds\LimF_JXz\0\aec\appsdk-builder\cgrepo\vraysdk\s(1530) : CUDA error 716
    3/14/2022 11:45:11 PM Error [V-Ray] [MemoryManagerGpu::releaseUnmappedMemoryFromInstanc e] 716: Could not release device buffer

FYI each frame was taking around 3-4 mins to render.

    Best,

    T

    Hello,

Can you please share the project where this is occurring so I can investigate?
If this is alright, please use the Pack Project tool(Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project) to make an archived copy of the project and send it to us via the link below.

        Hi,

Can you please update V-Ray to the following version(https://download.chaos.com/?license_...271&product=47) and update the Nvidia driver(https://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx)
Let me know if that worked.

So far it has been working, but will keep posted.

Just out of interest, what do you think it could indicate, or is that a broad error statement?

I tested the project on my end with the latest update and was not able to reproduce it - that's, why I thought that the update will fix it. And the driver update is usually a good idea when you encounter GPU-related issues.

I still don't know what caused it, this is more of a broad error statement.

            Edit:
It's recommended to upgrade GPU drivers to the version listed on this page https://www.chaos.com/vray-gpu
Those drivers are tested and officially recommended by Chaos.

At one point, I was updating the software, and then almost immediately it was asking me to update it again.

I uninstalled everything, and reinstalled it all, and I think that has done the trick.

Just sent in another bug request regarding long render times.

I've just started a separate render, and in the log it says the following?

[08:25:23.031] Warning : Checking CUDA driver version: 5001: Installed driver version (511.65) is newer than the latest verified one (497.09)!
                Any ideas?

                  Hi,

There are known issues with render times and the dfiver version you are using. If its possible, please revert back to driver version 497.09.
