I have learned my lesson the hard way that you should use the purge asset feature within VRay and not through a SketchUp plugin or the native tool, especially on fairly complex scenes. I do feel like it runs very slowly and without some sort of progress bar almost gives the impression that SketchUp has crashed.

I totally agree with you that it looks like Sketchup/VRay have crashed.
I have already made a request on the forum for Chaos to set up progress bars for the different tasks.Windows 10 - RTX 3090 - AMD Ryzen 9 5950X - 128 Go RAM

Yes! This was detected and logged with SK-4028 number in our system.
The performance improvement is planned to be included in our next hotfix.
Though, thank you for noticing and reporting it here too.
I am not sure that progress bar will be soon implemented, but the performance will be improved.
Wait for it, test it and give us feedback.
