  • Frame Buffer Crashes After Few Renders

    Hi!

    When
we try to render a sequence of preview images (few test renders), Vray stops opening the frame buffer, and it becomes completely white, not responding and crashes.
And then we need to restart SketchUp completely. This is happening quite frequently and affect our work pipeline.

We consulted local technical support (Brazil) but they were unable to resolve the issue.

What could be happening? Has anyone ever had this problem?

    Hello silviabitelliarquiteturaeinteriore_silviabitelliar,

Could you please provide us some more information in order to assist you with your issue:
    • What V-Ray version are you currently using? Please check About V-Ray for SketchUp window and share a screenshot.
    • Are you referring to the Batch rendering? Are you able to render each single view successfully?
    • Are you able to reproduce the issue in a new simple scene (with simple cube geometry and several views added)?
    • If the issue is reproducible only in a specific scene please share your scene for us to test. To do that open a ticket using this submit request form and upload the archived scene in the ticket. Make sure to archive it with the Pack Project tool (Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project tool).
    • Also share computer specifications as well: include a screenshot of Task Manager > CPU Tab: example attached and also System Information Tab (example) to check available memory. If GPU is used for rendering also share a screenshot of the Task Manager > GPU Tab with graphics card specifications: example.
    Waiting for your reply.

      Hello Natalia!

To optimize, I will respond following the items in your message above:

      - Attached is the screenshot with the Vray version.

      - We are not using Batch Render. The problem appears when single views are rendered in sequence.

      - We were unable to reproduce the issue in a simple geometry file.

      - This issue is happening in several projects. And not in one specifically.

      - Attached are the requested screenshots. We are rendering in CPU.

Thanks in advance for your help!

        Thank you for the screenshots.
At this point there are two possibilities I can think of that may be happening: insufficient memory to render these particular scenes or issues with 13th gen Intel processors.

In order to determine if the issue is memory-related you can forward your scene to us so we could test it if the crash is reproducible and check how much memory it requires. To do that, archive the scene with the Pack Project tool (Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project tool) and open a ticket where you can upload it.

As for the possible issue with Intel processor please review this article. If your crashes are not memory or scene-related and appear to be random this may be a case considering that you have an i9-13900K processor.

You may also try rendering using RTX render engine to see if it also crashes or if render is successful.

I have started having this issue this week. Doesn't matter what the project is. Will render fine for 2,3 renders, then make a tweak and render again straight to white screen and have to restart sketchup. Has never happened prior so is completely random. Can't imagine it's all of the sudden a processor issue as it's only just started. Any help appreciated as it is frustrating and not helping work flow. Cheers, Nick

            Hello AMG445,

Let us investigate your issue, for that please share some additional information:
            • Do you render using CPU or GPU? Please run a V-Ray Benchmark in all three modes and share your results to check your hardware performance.
            • Are you rendering Batch render or Animation?
            • Could you test some new basic scene with several Cosmos Assets to check if it will render.
            Waiting for your reply.

Hi there Natalia, please find attached both logs from V-Ray Benchmark (only had two options) I am only rendering a single scene, not batch rendering or animation - the same as the original post. Will test a basic scene today, Many Thanks,
              Nick

Thank you for the Benchmark logs Nick - I would like to confirm that both CPU and CUDA scores look alright.

So please try testing some new scene with assets and if it does render without any issues please share one of your problematic scenes to check in our environment.
For that, open a ticket and submit your scene with all the assets (use Pack Project tool to make an archive).

I have the same problem. When I render an animation, after successfully rendering three frames, V-Ray and SketchUp freeze on the fourth frame. I’ve tried several times, and the result is always the same.
