  • VRAY Frame Buffer Crash

    I have one particular model that once rendered, if I click anything in the History or Layers panels, causes Vray and Sketchup to crash. Tried purging model and VRAY excess materials. No luck. Tried resetting render setting to default. Same result. Other models work fine. One thing I have noticed is the Lens Effect layer is turned on but no options appear below. When I click it as well everything crashes.

    iMacPro 2017
    3.2 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon W
    Radeon Pro Vega 56 8 GB
    32 GB 2666 MHz DDR4
    Sonoma 14.5 (23F79)
    Sketchup Version 24.0.554
    VRAY 6.20.04

    Hello kbeck

    Thank you for the file provided. We tested it, but we can't reproduce the crash on our side. It would be best if you could send us the packed project. If you agree, please archive your scene using the Pack Project tool (Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project tool). Also, a recorded video of the crash will be helpful.

    If you don't want to share this information in the forum, you can open a new ticket to our 3D Support via this form, where you can send all the requested details above.

    Thank you.

      Thank you rossen.rangelov . I packaged the project here. I may have discovered a way around this issue. It seems to be related to another post I commented on about the VRFB getting stuck open and unable to close the window. I found that by clicking the save button, then escaping out of the save dialog, you are able to close the window normally. I think the same may work for my Lens Effects crash. Will test more tomorrow.

        Hello kbeck ,

        Thank you for contacting us.

        I would like to share that there is indeed an issue with closing VFB on macOS SketchUp 2024 version. This is logged internally under SK-4889 and I have linked your forum post to it, so we will notify you of any changes.

        As for the workaround, please try:
        • Open new empty SketchUp scene;
        • Go to Extensions>V-Ray>Preferences and disable Parent Frame Buffer;
        • Restart SketchUp;
        • In the new session, Frame Buffer Parenting will be disabled, and you should be able to work with and close VFB.
        Let me know if this works for you as well.
