  • Purging blend materials

    Hello,

I've noticed that whenever I purge unused assets, Vray will keep my 2-sided and "Blend" materials, but will delete the sub-materials that make those up. Is there a way for it not to do that?

Wanted to add: When I go to reselect the "sub-materials" from the Base and Coat layers it will show me the dropdown list, but I can't actually change it from "none" and end up having to recreate the materials from scratch.

    Hey,

I did a quick test and everything seems fine - the 2-Sided and Blend materials are Purged and I can select materials/None from the dropdown menu.

    I'm using V-Ray 6 for SketchUp 2024, update 2.5 Official Release.

Could you tell us which is your V-Ray version? The version of V-Ray can be found in Extensions > V-Ray > Help > About.

Also, could you give us some more details what are your steps to reproduce the problem?

    Thanks!

Hi, purging using vray asset editor purge tool is fine. But purging using sketchup-statistic-purge unused option deletes the base and coat materials..

        Sure,

        I'm on V-ray 6 for Sketchup 2024, Version 6.20.04 (don't update mid project)

        1. Purge unused assets (which will delete the materials used for the core materials if they are not used anywhere else in the project)
        2. The Blend material will now be black with "None" and "None" for the base materials, however the blending map is still present.
        3. When trying to select a different material from the dropdown menus, it will not select anything and the dropdown closes back up and stays at "none"

To work around this, I had to duplicate the blend material, delete the original, and then was able to select the base materials afterwards.

          Hey,

Thank you for reporting this issue! We have it logged in our system (ticket: SK-4180) and our dev team is notified.

We have confirmed that the problem occurs only when the SketchUp native Purge action (Material Tray or Model Stats window) is used.

When working with V-Ray materials we recommend using the V-Ray Asset Editor 'Purge Unused Assets' action instead. You can find it at the bottom-right corner of the Assets list (the Broom icon) - https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/a...ecommendations

We will update the thread when we have more information.

          Hope this helps!

            Awesome! Good to know thanks.

I actually used both purging methods so that would do it. I always use the V-ray native method, but this model in particular had gotten enormous (Whole home interior) so I tried the sketchup purge afterwards to see if that would slim down the file as well.
