  • Materials lost when syncing on Google Drive

I'm using Vray for Sketchup v7. I work in a mac ecosystem and have an iMac and Macbook Pro. Files are stored on Google Drive and if I have a file with Vray materials assigned that I'm working on, these materials are lost if I open it on a different machine than the one I created it with. Versions of Sketchup are the same on both machines - same license. Is there a solution for this and is the issue with mac os, Vray or Google Drive?

Using a Cloud service to store assets so you can use them on a different computer is not always the best option, as the paths to these assets (textures,..) probably change, for instance different username when logging in might change, etc.

I also use Google Drive to store everything, but I sync using software like goodsync to a specific drive, to a path of my own choosing, so the paths to everything is always the same even if I work on my other workstation. Also Google Drive on Mac is extremely shit, always had issues.

So in short you need to make sure that the paths to your assets are the same on every computer.

To expand on Vizioen's point, have you used the File Path Editor to check where VRay is looking for those assets for each machine?
Even on something as basic as Chaos Cosmos, the default path of Cosmos assets is (on Windows, Mac is likely similar) /This PC/Documents/Chaos Cosmos/ - which translates to %USER%/Documents/Chaos Cosmos, where %USER% is the user/account name for the respective device. This means that if I set up a project on LAPTOP1, then try and render it on DESKTOP1, all assets on LAPTOP1/Documents/Chaos Cosmos will fail to resolve on DESKTOP1 since the corresponding directory does not exist. This is immediately visible when opening the File Path Editor.

At our office we have multiple users who collaborate on models and we had to change our Cosmos path to be in the root folder (on Windows, C:/Chaos Cosmos/) that is invariant on all computers (using a common network drive/NAS is also an option with a different set of tradeoffs).
