  • V-Ray 70002 Material/Light Preview Completely Broken - Urgent Help Needed

    Hi there

Running V-Ray 70002 with SketchUp 2025 and experiencing a critical issue: material and light previews are completely non-functional. Instead of detailed previews, I'm seeing only basic gray spheres/shapes.

    I've already:
    • Reinstalled V-Ray and SketchUp
    • Rolled back to previous versions of both V-Ray and SketchUp
    • Checked all possible settings
    • Contacted support (no response yet)

Nothing resolves the issue - even reverting to older versions doesn't help. This is extremely frustrating and blocking my workflow. Can anyone provide a solution or confirm if this is a known bug?

Urgent assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi chen_kremer,
Thank you for reaching out about this problem! It looks like the preview renderer fails to run for some reason.
Though we have some theories what might be wrong, we would need the contents of the install and vrayneui log files, as well as list of C++ redistributables to determine the cause and its potential solution.
My colleagues will continue this discussion via your open support ticket. We can provide you with direct assistance this way.

        Hi Sebastian,

We are actively investigating the material preview issue, but tracking it down has been extremely challenging, especially since we haven't been able to reproduce it locally.
And there is actually something you can help us with.

To help us, please install Process Explorer and do the following.
Start SketchUp and open the Asset Editor.
Run Process Explorer and from the menu go to Find / Find Handle or ... and search for the text I've shown in the following screenshot (msvcp140):

Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	82.1 KB ID:	1228978

What we're interested is the path displayed in the Name field.

          Hi guys,

I'd still like to get the info I requested in my previous post...

Besides that we might have identified a potential cause for the issue.
Here's a workaround you can try:
          1. Stop SketchUp
          2. Find a file called msvcp140.dll in %temp%
          3. Delete, rename or move the file somewhere else
          4. Start SketchUp
          5. Open the Asset Editor - the preview should work as expected
