  • Strange radiant spots on tile?

Hey guys, hope this image shows, I am not too adept at the whole html thing. Anyways as you will see if this posts I am getting some strange bright spots in my renders of a tile material I was working on. I have no idea why this is happening, I am using bump and diffuse maps from arroway in conjunction with the typical exterior rendering settings described in your tutorial. Just wanted to see if anyone else has run into this problem.

Seems to work finally. By the way, once I get all the bugs worked out of these textures I will try and post them in the downloads section. Since the standalone .mat to vismat converter may not be on the horizon I think it would help everyone if we could start getting a good library of materials. Anwyay hope someone has run into this problem before...I don't think it's the lighting because I rendered other materials using the same default lighting on the same SU model and didn't have any problems.

You said you had a bump map on the material, right? And your using the default setup which includes the vray sun. Basically your bump map is shifting the normals at that point directly back in the direction of the sun. Because the sun is very bright its illuminating just that spot because its pointed directly back at it. In this case vray is acting correctly, however, not as one would desire it. Its something we are looking into. If it really gets to you I would suggest enabling Clamp Output and Sub-Pixel Mapping in the Color Mapping rollout as that usually takes care of most of those artifacts.
