  • Transparency mapping

    Hi
I’ve been trying out Vray for sketchup and I am very impressed so far.

I’ve been working through the manual and got to the transparency mapping section but just can't seem to get this to work.

I’ve opened the file with the orange block, made a black and white image as instructed and placed it into the transparency channel. In the texture preview it looks just like the manual with the white text on the orange background but when I render the text doesn’t show up.

Not sure if this ia a bug or if I'm doing it wrong but its driving me mad so thought I'd ask here.

    Cheers for any help

    Re: Transparency mapping

I'm finding much the same. None of the Transparency settings applied to the Diffuse section of a Linked material appear to have any effect. They don't even appear to stick. If I close down the tree in the left pane of the Material Editor, so that only Scene Materials is showing, then close all the menus in the right pane; then open the whole thing up again and navigate to the Linked material all transparency settings I applied have been lost...the capital M is back to lower-case.

      Hi
Use a small value for repeat like 0.001. see my work! I used transparency mapping for trees

        Re: Transparency mapping

What ever ola said was right ....let me add a bit more to the story.... ;D.....first of all the tutorial part is a bit misguiding.....u dont need 2 diffuse layers.....it can be done in one diffuse layer...put the colour texture eg a tree or a person in the M of colour of diffuse....put the transperency map in m of transperency of diffuse....remember the part u want to be transperent should be white and the part to be seen should be black (Unlike max) try the invert tab for some help...remember to apply the map to a grouped up object or plane....does not work with non grouped surface....initially the required effect may not be visible but the try what ola suggested.....and finally adjust the plane to which the material is applied by reducing its dimentions.....always remember to render only after coming out of a group or deactivating a group to see the required rendered effect..... the grouped up surface can finnaly be scaled to the necessary size & u will see the rendering of the maps is also scaled up proportionately......

These trees are used the transparency mapping .I think something parameters you don't set right.
