After reviewing this issue I have found that if you enter in that textures original size then it will return to exactly where it's supposed to be. This means that I will have to go back to all my components and old sketchUp files and do this to every texture mapped image and resave it.
This will take a couple of days to do the work, but there shouldn't be an issue after it's done. Though this does require more work to get old files set up I think the benefits of texture linking and the time it will save outway the problem.
Thanks for making vRay for sketchUp for us. This realy is a great update - even with all the bugs.
When opening scenes with the new v-ray installed, all the texture uv change!!! this is a major problem.
tested on more then one model
cheers
I'm having the same problem. If you follow my steps obove then it should fix it. I know it's time consuming, but in the long run you will save much more time with texture linking if you use vRay a lot.
Some strange thing happens. Then I read this thread with google reader I see this
" by josgarno@uat.edu
"Sorry!" That's all you have to say? This Is Insane."
Reading it on forum I see something different. Censored ? ;D
I can't believe this massive bug is being shrugged off as a side-effect of "improvements". I've just convinced my new employer to purchase 2 licenses for VfSU, installed the service release and ALL my VfSU files are half wrecked with texture scales all over the place. Try explaining that you have to re-do work you've already been paid to do to your boss when you've got regular deadlines for visualizations. Re-scaling textures is NOT 2 day's work as the original texture scales have been overwritten by the service release installation- fortunately I uninstalled it and the original scales were restored in the SU material editor, but am I really supposed to uninstall VfSU SR, go through ALL my files and components, write down all the custom texture scales, then install VfSU and edit them all manually? I can't do it by eye as many are scaled to the nearest millimeter to ensure accuracy with real-world units (brick sizes, etc).
What is it about the way VfSU NOW handles materials that makes it rescale many textures? I hadn't altered the scale of any of these textures in the VfSU material editor, so why does it alter some SU texture scales, but not others?
I really don't see how an update can be called a "service release" when it cures some minor bugs, but replaces them with one enormous one which screws up all your existing VfSU files. Sorry for being so negative, but my employers are seriously unimpressed and that doesn't make my job any easier.
What you can download is not final, it is a Release Candidate. Which means that there are still things that need to get worked out. Therefore, you have to make the determination as to whether it is worth it to you to try it when we're letting you know that its not 100% ready. A general rule of thumb with software is to update when you can work around if anything happens. If your in the middle of a project, then you should seriously consider when you install new software/updates. This isn't just for vfsu, its just a good idea.
As far as textures and UV coordinates, SketchUp's system is far beyond perfect. We simply have to work within that system. As I said, there were some major changes to how materials were handled and the translation from the old system to the new system is probably where the problem has occurred. I can assure you that this isn't seen as trivial and that its being worked on. We try to test things as much as we can, but things get through, and working with old setups is something that is harder for us to test.
OK, thanks for the info. I specifically finished one project and backed up all my VRay/SU files and VRay program files before installing the service release (which uninstalled without any problems) so no harm done, but I'm going to have to remain with the previous release until this problem is ironed out. Thanks again for the prompt response- good support is worth it's weight in gold.
Can you do me a favor and please send me a model, just so that I can test this with the current internal build. It would be greatly appreciated...
On another note, above should read "SketchUp's system is far from perfect" ...its really a pain, and makes next to no sense. I just realized the typo :-[
I too have switched back to the previous release version of the software. I found this issue to be annoying, but I could still work around it. However with all the other bugs getting in the way as well as this problem I could not be productive.
This issue has been resolved in our latest internal build. Hang in there guys, once the finalized SR1 is released, we think you'll find it's a breath of fresh air compared to the old version. We've knocked out a good load of bugs that you all have been letting us know about. The more feedback we get about the SR1 Release Candidate, the better the product will be when we release the final version.
I am in between choices: Vray for sketchup or for C4D.
I just love SU which is much faster to use as a modeler , so I hope the Su version of Vray is getting that improvement it needs.
Hopefully it won't take too long. Render soft at this price range should work almost bugfree and should be feature packed (instances/proxies?).
Instancing and proxies is getting attention, but will not be in the upcoming service release. As far as working bug free, this is almost impossible for any complex program. That being said we are trying to get as close to that as possible and a number of bugs have been fixed with internal versions.
