Vray SR1 crashes when opening an existing SU file

Hi,

Just installed the latest vray SR1 build 01.00.70 using it with sketchup 6 build 6.4.112 and when opening an existing model file it will crash out with a bugsplat and microsoft runtime C++ error - application cannot continue. Windows is fully up to date and all device drivers are current (specifically video drivers - it is not this).

I have administrator privileges on my pc which is a dual core HPxw8600 workstation running Vista x64 with 8gb RAM.

If I completely uninstall vray sketchup works fine, which considering we have just bought a licence with a view to rolling it out across the network, is not endearing it to my boss.

Anyone any ideas ???

I had the same problem with the RC2 but now SR1 opens existing large SU files fine (with updating all materials and all) but when i hit render nothing happens...

(sorry for hijacking ur thread but i feel ur frustration)

Was this on a vista x64 system ? I am thinking of installing v4su on one of the XP x32 systems here to see if I can replicate it and rule out vista as a potential problem.

Why don't these things ever run smoothly !

Does it happen with any model?
I had some problems which turned out to be due a component I had imported from Google Warehouse.

I thought of that. It is not only this model although it would appear to be linked to filesize (this model is about 25mb) and primarily made from components all modelled in-house. Smaller models (including the inserted component files) seem to open fine. I will re build the model from the individual components and see if this does the trick - may just be some corruption somewhere during the vray "upgrade" of materials.

The wierd thing is that if I start a new file and import this model in as a component everything is fine until I save it. It will save fine but then will crash when I try to open it again.

Baffled !

Randompenguin & Free Agent- Please send go to our support page and fill out a support ticket about these issues. It would be nice to be able to look at this scene as well. Could you possibly upload the scene to a company/personal server, or maybe a site such as www.mediafire.com and then include a link to that file in your support ticket?

same problem here...i need to go back to the previous version. the new version keeps crashing lots of my SU files. Please help!!

Mine is crashing on material assignment. The simplest scene with on cube, first bucket tool click- and crash without autosave.
@Biebel: VfSU 1 SP1SP1 ASAP would be nice )

I hope the bugs can be solved soon so I can purchase the product.

The impression the product makes to me currently:

1. Quality of the engine itself: superb (from the beginning it has been)
2. Workflow: Tedious at first but latest releases improved things considerably!
I love the way the material editor works now .
3. Bugs and stability: it would be lovely if this would be fixed in consecutive updates.

perhaps its sketchups fault... with their wonky geometry/programing and whotnot :P
this really is an amazing product, and the more we love it, the more frustrated we get when it doesnt work the way we want it to/the way its supposed to...

I also had the crash on opening an old file - it was a 70 Mb RC2 file so maybe that was the problem. However I imported it into a new file and it seems fine now.
It does seems like the auto linking of materials has slowed down the materials handling, put the payoff is that it is set up for you, saving time.
A number of old bugs have been fixed, which is great (just as we got used to working around them!!), and I am sure there will be new bugs emerge as we use the new release, but hey, just look at the results people are producing - stunning.
I thing we have here a great community working together so the product can only get better and better.
